The British In India Museum

This museum was opened in Colne in 1972, moving to Nelson in 2006.

The website will give you an introducion to the collection and, hopefully wet your appetite for paying a visit.

On show are swords, kurkis, commemorative boxs and plates. models carved in ivory, photographs, paintings, Indian army cap badges and buttons. There is a tiger skin which was shot in the Saugor area in 1915. Clothes worn by E.M. Forster when he was secretary o H.H. The Maharajah of Dewas State Senior. Uniform of F.M. Sir Claude Auchinleck. The last flag to be lowered at the Residency, Lucknow in 1947. Many other items too numerous to mention.
